I'm old enough to remember a time before cell phones. In those days, I would call my friends from the rotary phone in my room and talk for hours. On Friday night, I had an old fashioned conversation like that with my best friend, who also happens to be my sister. We spent the evening on the phone, talking about everything and nothing, before ending up on our computers simultaneously watching YouTube videos about cake decorating. We happened upon on video that showed a cake made to look like a plate full of nachos and, well, I couldn't resist. This would make an awesome game day dessert. So with football season starting up, I thought I'd give it a try.

The good news is we survived. That's right. Nine little boys sleeping over in our home. And we survived! And now that it's over, I think I figured out how we survived. First, we were prepared. We tried to anticipate everything and have it ready to go. And second, we just let go. That's right - just let go. That one is easier said than done. But going into this party, I realized we were going to have to give the boys a space and just let them be them.

I took a short break from blogging for a while, but my son's birthday party has my creative side coming out again. And it all started about a month ago with a trip to Target's dollar spot. I found paper straws that had orange and blue stripes. At the time, I had no idea what I would do with them. But I loved the colors together and bought them for $1 each.
Then my son asked for a birthday sleepover. And he loves sports. So I dug out those straws.

I love a good kids craft. They are simple and colorful and give young minds and hands a chance to get creative. This Spring Peeps banner I made for my mantel this year is a perfect craft to do with your kids. You only need a few simple supplies and it makes a fun addition to your Spring decor.
