Party Week: A Carnival on the Farm

This is a fun time of year for fairs and carnivals. In fact, my husband recently took our kids to a nearby county fair and they had so much fun. It reminded me of this oh-so-creative and crafty birthday party thrown a few years ago by a friend. She also happens to live on a farm, so the wide open spaces and barns were put to good use.

The carnival theme was carried out in the vibrant red, white and yellow decorations around her home. Two windows on a barn that houses animals were used to serve popcorn and snow cones.

Kids at the party were given tickets for carnival games like go fish and cornhole, which were set up around the yard. They won trinkets at each game station.

And of course, no carnival is complete without some sweets! Cake, cupcakes, cookies, pixie sticks and lollipops rounded out the theme.

Did I mention there was a clown balloon artist? And a pinata? Yes, this party had everything - and then some!

Where do you get inspiration for your kids' birthday parties? I'd love to hear your ideas in the comments below.

  1. This is astounding...I remember you talking about this. You really would need the right kind of space to pull this off! I want to do something great for E's fifth birthday since she hasn't ever had a real party, but no idea what it will be...
